Transforming the Yarra – Education
Transforming the Yarra has been designed as an education activity for Victorian students.
The Teacher’s Notes available below have been prepared to show how the walking tour and associated materials fit into the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) curriculum and how it could be used by schools in the following subjects:
The Humanities - Level 3, Years 3 and 4.
The Humanities, History – Levels 4 and 5, Years 5 – 8.
The Humanities, Geography - Levels 4 and 5, Year 5 – 8.
Communications - Levels 4, 5 and 6, Years 5 – 10.
Arts – Levels 3 – 6, Years 3 – 10.
The Teacher’s Notes outline the subject, strand and dimensions where the tour could be used as well as listing resources and giving examples of activities for students.

Logistics
The tour takes approximately 25 – 30 minutes walking continuously and is two kilometres long running from Federation Square to the Melbourne Convention Centre at South Wharf.
The walking tour complements other excursion activities along the Yarra corridor such as:

Visiting the Ian Potter Gallery or the Australian Centre for the Moving Image at Federation Square.

Doing other activities as part of Federation’s Square’s education program Fed Ed.

The City of Melbourne’s Artplay centre at Birrarung Marr.

The City of Melbourne’s Signal centre on the Northbank.

The Victorian Arts Centre.

The National Gallery of Victoria.

The Melbourne Aquarium

The National Trust’s Maritime Museum at South Wharf.
The tour is also well placed for public transport. It begins near Flinders Street Station and ends a short tram journey from South Cross Station.
