Major Projects Victoria is refurbishing the 27 year old Rod Laver Arena as part of the Melbourne Park Redevelopment Stage 2.

Centre court for the Australian Open and the third highest grossing arena in the world, Rod Laver Arena is getting the face lift it deserves.

Cox Architects have designed plans that will improve existing facilities and provide new state of the art spaces that will serve Victorians for another 27 years.

The project will be delivered over the course of four years with the first major construction works commencing in 2016 and all works scheduled to be completed in 2020.

The refurbishment includes:

  • a new eastern-facing primary entrance, which will also provide food and beverage facilities and toilets
  • an expanded public concourse space
  • accessible entrances to the seating bowl
  • significant back-of-house improvements to ensure that Rod Laver Arena can continue to host the best events in Australia.
