Geelong Trainshed Way Development

Major Projects Victoria is managing delivery of the Geelong Trainshed Way Development (TWD) on behalf of the Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD).
The TWD will be a new, purpose built facility accommodating a number of government departments and agencies, together with Barwon Water. The facility will be located adjacent to the Geelong train station on a site bounded by Trainshed Way, Mercer Street and Brougham Street in Geelong.
The TWD has been conceived to help revitalise the station precinct and stimulate private sector investment on this strategically important site.
The TWD will be a landmark development for the Greater Geelong region, co-locating key government departments and agencies in central Geelong and providing the community with better access to essential services. The facility will also bring economic benefits to the local community: market confidence in central Geelong will be boosted, and by locating professional jobs in the centre and creating additional construction jobs, the broader central Geelong agenda will be enhanced through positive flow-on economic impacts for the region.
The objectives of the TWD are to:
- create a vibrant and active development that sets the benchmark for redeveloping the Geelong Station Precinct
- leverage private investment and build market confidence by delivering an A-grade commercial development
- improve access to services and promote sustainable transport use by locating new development at transport interchanges
- create a welcoming gateway that highlights Geelong’s importance to the region and enhances the heritage values of the station complex
- provide Barwon Water with a contemporary office building that supports its changing culture and enhances its journey towards becoming an environmental leader and a high performance workforce
- improve the delivery of State Government services and administration through the co-location of departments
- facilitate the reinvestment and refurbishment of existing, dispersed accommodation, providing more opportunity for new or expanding private sector businesses to locate in central Geelong.
It is also envisaged that the TWD will help create an important gateway into central Geelong and provide activation and enhanced connectivity between Geelong’s CBD, waterfront and the train station.

The TWD will comprise 13,500 square metres of new office accommodation across two premises, one owned by Barwon Water and the other leased by the Minister for Finance to accommodate a variety of State Government departments and agencies.
