Docklands Studios Melbourne
Major Projects Victoria is working with the Department of Business and Innovation and Docklands Studios Melbourne (DSM) to deliver a $10 million works program to DSM's facilities.
The Docklands site currently contains five purpose designed state-of-the-art sound stages of varying sizes. Each sound stage has production office facilities, make-up areas, wardrobe departments, green rooms, star dressing rooms and holding bays.
Under this capital works program, Sound Stage 5 will be modified to better accommodate fast turnaround light entertainment and live audience programs to support a multi-segment focus for the Docklands studio.
Other works in the program include:
- improvements to the existing workshop areas to give more flexibility and functionality and to allow for multiple users.
- upgrading the front entrance and widening the incoming lanes, and
Project benefits include:
- providing the studios with a more reliable income stream by enabling a multi-segment focus with particular emphasis on domestic television production,
- enhancing the skills and capability of the local screen industry, and
- maintaining existing levels of Victorian production and preventing the loss of Victorian productions to interstate studios.
