The Jolimont railway yards, located to the east of Federation Square are located in a prime position between the CBD, Federation Square and Melbourne’s sporting precinct.

The Government is looking at options to cover the railway yards and develop an under-utilised asset that could provide a key linkage between the city, river, parklands, sports and entertainment precincts.

Opening up and developing the site would significantly improve public connectivity, accessibility and activity throughout the sports and arts precincts and further develop Melbourne’s reputation as Australia’s sporting and cultural capital.

Major Projects Victoria has been coordinating the whole-of-government investigation to outline development options for the site.
