Ballarat West Employment Zone Signals Jobs Growth

The Andrews Labor Government’s plan to boost employment and economic growth in Ballarat over the next 20 years took another step forward today, with the announcement of two new land sales at the Ballarat West Employment Zone (BWEZ).

Agricultural machinery specialist Agrimac and freight distribution company Kane Transport are the second and third land-owners within the precinct.

Agrimac has purchased a 1.84 hectare lot to build a new dealership and service centre as part of the company’s expansion of its western Victorian operations, where it will employ up to 25 people.

Ballarat-based freight distribution company Kane Transport has purchased a 1.8 hectare lot to build a new warehouse and depot facility.

The company’s new development will employ 17 people at a more efficient and safer warehouse operation in closer to interstate transport links and central Ballarat.

These sales follow on from the first purchase of land in October last year, when Broadbent Grains purchased a 10.67 hectare lot to develop a $24 million export grain handling facility –  expected to create 35 local jobs.

BWEZ is a $30 million joint initiative between the Labor Government and the City of Ballarat to support the region’s economic growth over the next 20 years.

The Labor Government has unlocked 60 hectares of industrial land to attract large-scale businesses to Ballarat, which will build on the region’s existing strengths and also help boost the local economy.

BWEZ has the objective of becoming a high quality industrial estate for a range of manufacturing, agribusiness, construction, freight and logistics and research and development uses.

It has been designed to enhance business productivity, with a freight hub on site, access for high productivity freight vehicles, top quality infrastructure, and close access to Ballarat airport.
